Buying a Pram Newborn
Parents and caregivers can rely on prams and pushchairs that can be versatile and multi-functional. They are the co-pilots of your child's next adventure.
A pram newborn is a must for newborns and babies and has a deep, sturdy carrycot that has soft and secure walls.
A pram comes with a bassinet, but it can also be converted into a stroller if the baby is ready.
Safety
Newborns are incredibly fragile and must be kept as safe as you can. Buying a stroller or pram equipped with safety features will ensure that your baby is comfortable and safe during their travels. A stroller or pram must include a break that is working and a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps with two waist straps and the crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person driving it. Check that your chosen pram is up to the standards before you buy.
Find a pram which allows your baby to ride in the recommended position of lying flat. This position helps support the baby and prevents the risk of a dangerous curve in the spine which can lead to spinal problems. It also reduces the chance of SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome) or asphyxiation by keeping airways clear. The majority of prams that can be used from birth will include an infant seat that can recline into a lie-flat pram mode for younger babies and then convert into a pushchair seat unit for older children.
The suspension of the pram will determine how smooth it rides. A pram that has a lot of suspension is likely to be more expensive but it could be worth the cost of this feature if you intend on using your pram everyday for a couple of years or more.
You should always be sure to read the instruction manual and examine the warning labels for your pram or stroller. When not in use, keep your stroller away from any potential hazards like bicycles, traffic or other people. It is also important to remove any bags or other items from the handles, since they could cause your baby to get caught or choke.
Even if the baby is asleep, it's not recommended to leave a pram or stroller unattended. They could wiggle and get stuck or the pram might be thrown away and the child might be injured. Hanging bags, or other items on the handles isn't recommended as they can fall and hit your child in the head.
Comfort
Possibility of lying flat seating is a essential for infants because it helps improve back and lung development. Cocoons or carriers are found on many prams. They create a cozy environment that is comfortable for your baby and can be detached easily from the frame. Others, such as the egg2's bucket style seat do not recline to lie flat, but offer a comfortable ride for your baby.
Some prams also feature a separate bassinet, newborn inset or stroller seat, so you can easily switch between sitting and sleeping modes according to your baby's needs. It is commonly referred to as a 'travel system' and is the first configuration you should try with your newborn.
Choose a stroller that has two shoulder straps which are cushioned, and a five-point safety harness. It must fit your child's body perfectly. Make sure there aren't any gaps or areas, where fingers could get caught. Also, ensure that the buckles are easy for older children to use. It's also worth considering whether you'd prefer a
parent facing pram or not - it's perfect to keep an eye on your child, and also helps them feel reassured by the familiar sight of their parents.
Some prams, such as the Graco Near2Me, come with a nifty raise and lower function that can bring your baby up to your face at the touch of an button, which our parents testers absolutely loved! This is a great method of keeping in touch with your baby, especially when they are asleep. If you're in the market for an appropriate travel system, be sure the frame's compatibility with your car capsule, as this will save the need to wake them up every time you're changing between car, pram and back again.
Convenience
When buying a
pram newborn it is essential to consider your baby's transport needs. Some prams have an infant bassinet, carrycot or a seat that can recline to an upright position. This is essential to ensure your baby's spinal development and breathing. It is important to check out the other accessories are included in the pram like an infant changing bag and a footmuff which are essential to keep your baby warm during colder months.
It's also worth noting that some strollers and prams can be transformed into travel systems which allows you to connect a car capsule to the frame using adaptors to allow you to easily move your baby between the car and the
running pushchair without needing to awake them. These are great when you have a busy schedule or you do not have enough space in your car's boot to accommodate the pram. But, you must keep in mind that you will need to wait until your child is old enough to sit by themselves before you can change them from a car capsule into the
running pushchair.
Our tester's mother found that the ability to raise or lower the seat of her son's 10 months old was a great feature. An excellent example is the Graco Near2Me which can be lowered to allow your little one to 'glide towards you by pressing an button and maintain constant eye contact.
Finally, make sure your pram newborn has a solid base and wheels that are able to handle bumps and potholes and that you can fold it down easily and ensure that the safety harness is in good working order that fits comfortably and securely (five-point rather than three-point) and can be adjusted as your child grows. You will also be able to keep changing and shopping bags inside the basket beneath (although keep in mind that loading the pram with too much weight could cause it to tip over). If you are unsure of which to choose, test out some different models at your local retailer.
