Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medications that treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing problems and an increased global demand.

Our service is private ADHD treatment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments are free and include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This includes a thorough medical history, and an evaluation using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your examination, you will be informed if medication is considered to be beneficial in your particular situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which can be done in person, via video link or via phone). Your clinician will explain the various options for medication and, if you choose to begin taking medication, we will suggest titrating dosage to ensure the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This is a process which could take a few weeks, and involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is achieved. It's not uncommon to have to titrate up to three different medications until you discover the one that best fits your child's ADHD. It is essential for parents to be involved in this titration process, and keep an eye on their child's behaviour to let the doctor know whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You will be required to attend every six months to check your medication - this includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is complete, you can schedule follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. The appointment will usually be conducted by video conference using zoom. In some circumstances, it might be possible to have an audio-only appointment to be scheduled (again with an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss any treatment options we have and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration plan. This will include a review of your medication dosage and a discussion of any possible side effects you might be experiencing. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

Find out if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic for medication prescription.

Medication

The medication process is an essential part of the journey for many who are looking for an official ADHD diagnosis. Getting prescriptions from an NHS psychiatrist can be difficult and long-winded.
