WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item upgrades by 3. A random substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for the latter due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade item their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level of the item being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the Best item upgrader slot and the current level of the item level Upgrade, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through a variety of means, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with numerous new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less even in the event that they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
