Three Wheeled Buggies
Three-wheeled buggies are great for walking around the neighborhood or jogging. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight spaces.
If you want a smooth ride on your baby, opt for models with 360deg front wheels that can swivel. They are susceptible, however to punctures. Be prepared with a repair set.
Sturdy frame
New figures show that three-wheeled buggies that were the symbol of the noughties that had more money than common sense, are in rapid decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, and are more versatile and easier to drive, while also looking elegant.
The idea is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with bumpy ground and rough pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back also makes it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy on an infant as well as a child who was
3 wheel running stroller years old and found it to be very robust. It was able to withstand cobbles, grass, and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath wrote "it is solid to push and extremely solid when you're on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require occasional pumping) have suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my kids.
The shape and size of the seat is another thing to consider. You want the seat to be big enough to allow your child to be comfortable and allow them to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies come with the option of lying flat, which allows the child to face you, while other buggies only allow a parent-facing one.
An excellent option for taking on off-road and muddy trails is the Roma Atlas. It can be used as a single from birth, and then expands to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers up to age 4 and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, improved 5-point harness and a spacious cushioned seat. The storage options are great as well, with a large basket, zip pockets on the hood and an easy-to-access pouch on the back of the seat unit.
Wheels with larger diameter
Larger wheels mean that your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - ideal for off-road buggies. They also allow you to maneuver the pushchair in tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies,
link, have swivel front wheels to assist you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability with which they can be driven. This is particularly useful when you hit trees or a kerb. The front wheel will be lifted slightly to prevent hitting it.
A majority of 3 wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres which allow them to tackle a broad range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures so you'll need a repair kit, spare tube and pump handy.
Our top 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. Both of these buggies come with larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to easily move up and down kerbs. They also have a suspension that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps very effectively".
The drawback of having larger wheels is that they can make some buggies quite wide and can struggle to fit through narrow spaces. This is an issue if you plan to are using it as a jogger or have to squeeze through narrow doorways while out and about. Fortunately, the majority of models come with small folding options that allow you to take off the front wheels to create more compact storage.
Easy to manoeuvre
A three-wheeler can be easier to maneuver with a child. The way in which they are constructed means that the front wheels rotate on a dime and are really easy to manoeuvre which makes them perfect for difficult terrain like cobbles, parks, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried the 3-wheeler with her toddler. she said: "The Terrain is a joy to maneuver on rough terrain. The front swivel wheel was especially helpful." I was also impressed by the way it handled kerbs, especially when using the hand-operated brake. It was very stable for descending or on a rough terrain."
The only drawback to this incredible maneuverability is that the larger wheels of the
3 wheel twin stroller wheel
double buggy 3 wheels can sometimes make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind if your home area is a city. If this is an issue, a 4-wheel buggy might be a better choice for you.

The Sport's clever design places the fabric sling seat inside the frame, instead of over it like modular seats. But that's not the only reason you should love this buggy - our MFM reviewer Kath loved how spacious it is as well. Plus, there's also a handy pouch on the back unit, and two smaller mesh pockets beneath the hood to keep your phone and keys.
