On 8 February 2021 Tesla's announcement of a bitcoin purchase of US$1.5 billion and the plan to start accepting bitcoin as payment for vehicles, pushed the bitcoin price to $44,141. In each grid, the trader has to set the price manually for setting the upper and lower limit. This week’s newsletter requests testing of the latest release candidates for Bitcoin Core and https://youtu.be/8a_2PD0suJA LND, describes how helping people accept payments to bech32 addresses can lower fees, and lists notable code changes in popular Bitcoin projects. This can in turn reveal a lot about your current holdings as well as your past and future transactions, and can by extension even reveal such data about people or entities you transact with. This argument has been made by many people in the Bitcoin community, notably including myself. The United States, Britain, Europe and Canada announced new sanctions on Russia on Saturday, including blocking certain lenders' access to the SWIFT international payment system, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Ledger has published a blog post explaining how to access your BCH, which you can find here. At the time of writing, it seems you won’t be able to access your BCH quite yet; keep an eye on their blog for updates. Further, there are three more factors to keep in mind before doing so. In a Bitcoin user's wallet, each of that user's own Bitcoin addresses is represented by three distinct numbers: a private key, a public key and the address itself. The public key is derived from the private key by elliptic curve multiplication, and, given only classical computers like those that exist today, recovering the private key from a public key is essentially impossible. Everything about quantum computers in the above two paragraphs is, given public knowledge, is essentially correct, and if a Bitcoin address is truly unused, then indeed, even given quantum computers, any bitcoins lying inside are fine. See the above section on paper wallets for more details.
Here is where the above logic goes wrong. However, here lies the problem. 1531. With seven-digit numbers, the problem can even be solved on paper with enough patience, but if the numbers are hundreds of digits long quantum computers are required. This is why it’s probably best to move your BTC to a new address or even a whole new wallet with a new wallet seed before you start meddling with BCH. Even if their prognostics are right it’s unlikely that anybody will be writing songs about them. Mike Schmidt: But it doesn’t prevent that information, that local information, from being shared outside of the protocol, right? This week’s newsletter describes how BLS signatures could be used to improve DLCs without consensus changes to Bitcoin and includes our regular sections with announcements of new software releases and release candidates, plus summaries of notable changes to popular Bitcoin infrastructure software. This week’s newsletter links to transcripts of recent LN specification meetings and summarizes a thread about the safety of blind MuSig2 signing. Consumer wallets will all be 2-of-3 multisig, sharing the keys between either a low-security local-storage key, a high-security key in a safety deposit box and a central provider, or two central providers and a low-security key.
However, at this point in time there are no BCH wallets available yet that allow this and which we can confidently recommend using. However, note that this wallet recommends using Electron Cash, which is not guaranteed to be secure. He described what software and services Bitrefill sees LN users using today and what he expects them to be using in the near future. In fact, since most wallets already try not to reuse addresses to increase privacy, for most users only minor software changes would be needed to satisfy the more stringent security condition, so adapting to quantum computing would be a breeze. In fact, the difficulty of factoring very long numbers is the basis of RSA, the oldest public key encryption algorithm and one still in use today. Once you have claimed your BCH, you can use it however you please. In this case, you’ll have to figure out for yourself whether this is the case or not, and how to do so.
