Three Wheeled Buggies
If you're seeking a buggy to run with or just a compact stroller for neighbourhood walks,
three wheeled buggies are great for mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver, even in tight places.
If you're looking for a smooth ride with your baby, opt for models with 360deg front wheels that can swivel. However, they are more prone to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with a repair kit.
Frame made of sturdy material
New figures show that three-wheeled buggies, that symbol of the noughties that were more expensive than common sense, are in rapid decline. They have been replaced by four-wheelers that can be more versatile in terrain, while also looking swanky and being easy to push.
The general idea is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with bumpy and rough pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear enable you to maneuver and more stable while walking downhill or on difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn and 3 year old and found that it coped well with grass, cobbles, rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. She said "it feels sturdy to push and is very stable when traversing difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require periodic pumping) come with suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my kids.
Another thing to take into consideration is the size and shape. It should be large enough to accommodate your child's comfort and you will also want it to be able to recline to allow them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies will have a full lie-flat option while others only allow for the parent to be facing one.
A great choice for tackling off-road and muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. The buggy can be used as a single from birth, and then expands to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth to age 4, and includes a bumper and raincover, a new 5-point harness, and a big padded seat. The storage options are great too, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets inside the hood and an attractive pouch at the rear of the seat unit.
Wheels with larger diameter
Larger wheels mean your buggy will be more stable on uneven terrain, which is ideal for off-road buggies. They also make it easier to manoeuvre the buggy through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have swivel front wheels to help you navigate around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This is particularly useful when you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to keep it from hitting it.
Many
3 wheel infant stroller wheel pushchairs feature air-filled tyres, which means they are able to handle different terrains and are much more adaptable than 4-wheelers. They're also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures so you'll need an repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.
Our
top 3 wheel strollers 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, as per MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that, she says "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles", and can easily go up or down kerbs. They also come with a suspension system that, in her words "smoothes out bumps with great efficiency".
The drawback of having larger wheels is that they can make some buggies quite broad and can struggle to fit through narrow spaces. This can be an issue if you're using it as an exercise bike or to maneuver through doors that are narrow when out and out and about. The majority of models come with compact folding options, which allow you to remove the front wheels and store them more compactly.
Easy to maneuver
One of the major advantages of a three-wheel buggy is that it's much more maneuverable especially with a child in tow. They are designed so that the front wheels be turned on a dime and are easy to maneuver, making them perfect for challenging terrain such as parks, cobblestones as well as bumpy roads and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the ground with the swivel rear wheel being especially helpful. I was also impressed by how well it coped with kerbs, especially when using the hand-operated brake. I found it to be extremely stable when going downhill or over uneven ground."
The only drawback of this incredible maneuverability is that the 3 wheel buggy's larger wheels sometimes mean it has to struggle in tight spaces - something to be aware of when you live in a city area. If this is a concern, a 4-wheel buggy might be better for you.
Bumper bar
Bumper bars protect your child from bumps and scrapes when out and out and about. They are quick and easy to install and make your child feel safe and secure while out on the town or tackling tough terrain.
Designed to complement the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar features a soft and cushioned surface that offers a comfortable spot for your child to hold on to during walks. The sturdy construction and durable design will ensure that your child is capable of enjoying a stroll through the city without worrying about falling or leaning forward.
The sling's fabric is placed within the frame, not on top like the modular seat. This puts the center of gravity for your baby at the perfect height and also delivers excellent weight distribution to make it easier to push over curbs (it is much easier to push a stroller up and down than you may think). MFM reviewer Kath said it's excellent on cobbles and grass. It's also a great option for running thanks to its tyres that are filled with air and a lockable swivel wheel.
With a sophisticated and stylish design this bumper bar will surely attract attention wherever you go. It's available in a variety of finishes and colors to match your style. The bumper bar is easily installed and removed using the quick-release mechanism. Furthermore, the bumper bar is easy to clean, and is made of durable materials that are simple to clean. This makes it an excellent option for families looking for a safe and stylish accessory for their stroller.
Comfort
A
3 wheeled pushchair-wheel buggy offers the highest level of agility and performance when driving off-road. This type of buggy is easy to steer and can turn at a moment's notice due to its perfect geometry engineering, as well as weight distribution.
Designed with fabric sling seat placed snugly within the frame, not sitting on top like modular seats, the Sport's clever design allows it to have a lower centre of gravity, which is at the ideal height for your child, giving you a more comfortable push, a lighter curb pop (you do not require the same amount of weight or effort to lift the hood of your buggy up and over a curb) and a greater balance and stability. And with the huge rear wheels measuring 16 inches, lockable swivel front wheel and tyres filled with air that require only occasional pumping for a bump free ride over rough terrain and a smoother and more comfortable jog as well.
The only stroller in our collection that has a parent-facing seat that can also accommodate the car seat or carrycot, you are able to future-proof your family to enjoy every adventure beginning from the first day, and for years to be!
Kath who was our MFM reviewer, also loved the space of this buggy. There's a big easily accessible basket that's huge for such a small buggy as well as an excellent zip-up pouch on the back of the seat unit, and two smaller mesh pockets inside the hood to store your phone and keys.
