Weapons

This bonus can sometimes be greater than the damage that an upgrade alone can cause.

The cost of upgrading a weapon is contingent on its rarity and level. For instance, a +2 weapon requires two standard Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade a weapon will continue increase until it is required to use a higher tier of Smithing Stones, at which the number will be reset to one.

Upgraded weapons can also alter their base stats. While this is usually a good thing but it can also have negative consequences too. Upgrades can make items unusable, unless you are very lucky.

Upgrades can be made to armor items to improve their performance. For instance, if you have a helm or chest, this will increase its defense base while a belt and gloves will increase their strength and dexterity. Armor has a rerolling feature for its Enhanced Defense percent. This means that it may roll down to a lower value.

The upgrade template for a weapon shows the new stats it will gain upon upgrading and their relative values. This means that a weapon will gain an attack damage of 3% if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. However the 3% difference doesn't mean that it will hit for 3 times less often because it's an absolute number.

Rerolling a weapon is possible by pressing the green button on the item menu, using the arrows that are circling. The item upgrading will be rerolled and alter its stats, but not reset the weapon's level or tie it to the account status.

Armor

Making a few improvements to your armor could make a a huge difference in your capacity to withstand. Certain sets can offer MASSIVE boosts to poison, curse, fire and magic resistance, making traversing tough areas a breeze. In general, the greater defense you have on your character, the greater health you can get from each point. So, it's best to upgrade your armor.

You can upgrade your armor by visiting any of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four Great Fairy Fountains in the game and to unlock each fountain, you have to complete an additional quest that involves the Stable Trotters. After you've completed your main quest, and the corresponding fountains, you'll be able to talk to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the armor upgrade menu.

The amount of materials needed to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. In general, you're looking at anything from three to ten Red Chuchu jellies and 10 Rupees for the initial upgrade, then anywhere between five Rubies and 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent upgrade. For example, the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, allowing you to keep up with a decent-sized group of enemies in most cold climates and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded all the way to +20 defense, granting the protection needed to survive the full-on assault with a few friends.

Note that armor can't be upgraded in the same way as weapons, so you'll have to concentrate on upgrading it to gain physical power if you're a Warrior or Spell Power in the case of a Mage. It is also recommended to save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the story, for example the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you use in the final boss fight, the Monter Parts Merchant Mask.

You can also gain advantages to your armor by giving the jeweler in Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. Generally, you'll want to keep these upgrades for the weapon you'll be using to win the game such as the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer However, it is useful to have some upgrades of the chest armor and helmets to let you stealthy battle some monsters.

Potions

Potions are liquids that when consumed by a participant, produce a temporary effect for a short period of time. There are five different types of potions, each having particular effects and durations. Certain potions can be upgraded, increasing the effectiveness of their effects. Trinkets can be upgraded once they're no longer useful and allows players to boost their power and value over time. They can be traded among players which makes them a good alternative to gold.

Players should upgrade their most essential items first. This usually refers to the most valuable-in-slot items for their class, then their secondaries, and finally other items of gear they will not be replacing soon (for example rings or cloaks). Players should also take into consideration their class's preferred stats when choosing the items to upgrade.
